HD 37605 and Its Two Known Planets

HD 37605 is a K0 V star located 153 light-years away. Its spectral type marks it as a main-sequence dwarf, somewhat cooler and less massive than the Sun. The star is 7 billion years old, holds 1 solar mass, and has a radius of 0.901 solar radii, smaller than the Sun's, with a temperature of 5450 K.

Two planets are known to orbit this host. Both were found by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period.

HD 37605 b was discovered in 2004. Its minimum mass, a lower bound on its true mass, is 855 Earth masses, and its orbital period is 55 days. Among the listed planets, it has the shortest year and the smallest minimum mass. HD 37605 c was discovered in 2012. Its minimum mass is 1010 Earth masses, and its orbital period is 2720 days. Among the listed planets, it has the longest year and the largest minimum mass.

The minimum mass of HD 37605 b is larger than Earth's and roughly 2.69 times Jupiter's mass, while the minimum mass of HD 37605 c is larger than Earth's and roughly 3.19 times Jupiter's mass. The star's reported temperature of 5450 K is cooler than the Sun's.
