HD 34445 and Its Six Planets

HD 34445 is a G0 V star 150 light-years away. Its spectral type marks it as a Sun-like, main-sequence dwarf. The star is 8.5 billion years old, with a mass of 1.07 solar masses, a radius of 1.38 solar radii, and a temperature of 5840 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

Six planets orbit this host. All six were found by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. HD 34445 b was announced in 2009, and c, d, e, f, and g followed in 2017. Each body has a minimum mass, a lower bound on its true mass.

HD 34445 e has the shortest year among the listed planets, at 49.2 days, and the smallest minimum mass, 16.8 Earth masses, which is larger than Earth's. HD 34445 d has the second-shortest year, 118 days, and the second-smallest minimum mass, 30.7 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. HD 34445 c orbits in 215 days with a minimum mass of 53.5 Earth masses, larger than Earth's. HD 34445 f takes 677 days and has a minimum mass of 37.9 Earth masses, larger than Earth's.

HD 34445 b has the second-longest year among the listed planets, 1050 days, and the largest minimum mass, 261 Earth masses, larger than Earth's. HD 34445 g has the longest year, 5700 days, and the second-largest minimum mass, 121 Earth masses, larger than Earth's.
