HD 25171 is an F8 V star located 181 light-years away. Its spectral type places it among the hotter, more massive stars than the Sun, and its measurements confirm this: the star has an age of 4 billion years, a mass of 1.09 solar masses, a radius of 1.18 solar radii, and a temperature of 6160 K. These stellar properties describe the host star itself, not the entire multi-star system. The star is known to host one planet.
That planet, HD 25171 b, was discovered in 2010 using the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. HD 25171 b has a minimum mass of 291 Earth masses, meaning its true mass is at least this value, and an orbital period of 1800 days.
The star's reported mass, radius, and temperature are all larger or hotter than the Sun's corresponding values. HD 25171 b's minimum mass is larger than Earth's.
