HD 240237 is a K2 III star located 3040 light-years from Earth. As a giant star, it has evolved off the main sequence. Its mass is 1.69 solar masses, its radius is 32 solar radii, and its surface temperature is 4360 K. The star is therefore more massive and much larger than the Sun, but cooler. One planet orbits it.
HD 240237 b was discovered in 2011 using the radial velocity method, which detects the gravitational wobble a planet induces in its star's motion. The planet's minimum mass - a lower bound on its true mass - is 5050 Earth masses, roughly 15.9 times Jupiter's mass. It completes one orbit every 746 days.
