HD 231701 is a star 355 light-years away with a single known planet, HD 231701 b. The host is an F8 V star, a main-sequence dwarf. It is 4.9 billion years old and has a mass of 1.14 solar masses and a radius of 1.35 solar radii, making it larger than the Sun in both respects. Its temperature of 6210 K is hotter than the Sun's.
HD 231701 b was discovered in 2007 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. The planet's minimum mass is 359 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass that is larger than Earth's. It completes one orbit in 142 days.
