HD 209458 is a G-type main-sequence dwarf 158 light-years away, and one planet has been found orbiting it. The star is 3.5 billion years old, with a mass of 1.26 solar masses, a radius of 1.2 solar radii, and a temperature of 6070 K. Its mass and radius are larger than the Sun's, and it is hotter than the Sun.
The planet, HD 209458 b, is Jupiter-like. It was discovered in 1999 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star, and its orbital period is 3.52 days. It has a mass of 232 Earth masses and a radius of 15.6 Earth radii. Both values are larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.338 g/cm³, 0.0613 times Earth's.
