HD 189733 is a G-type star 64.5 light-years from Earth. It has one known planet. Its reported mass estimate is 0.85 solar masses, its reported radius estimate is 0.68 solar radii, and its temperature is 5200 K. Each of these values is smaller or cooler than the Sun's corresponding value. The star also has a reported upper limit of 1 billion years on its age.
The planet HD 189733 b was discovered in 2005 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 12.7 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mass is 359 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 1.13 times Jupiter's mass. It completes one orbit in 2.22 days.
The planet's mean density is 0.974 g/cm³, 0.177 times Earth's.
