HD 180314 and Its Planet

HD 180314 is a K0 star 399 light-years away with a single known planet. Its mass is 2.6 solar masses and its radius is 9.2 solar radii. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's. Its temperature is 4920 K, which is cooler than the Sun's.

HD 180314 b was discovered in 2010 by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. The planet has a minimum mass of 7220 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass that is larger than Earth's and roughly 22.7 times Jupiter's mass. Its orbital period is 395 days.
