HD 175167 and Its Planet

HD 175167 is a G-type star 232 light-years away. Its spectral type of G5 IV/V indicates a temperature class similar to the Sun's, and its radius of 1.76 solar radii is larger than the Sun's. The star's temperature of 5640 K is cooler than the Sun's, and its mass is 1 solar masses. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, HD 175167 b, was discovered in 2009 by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. HD 175167 b has a mass of 4700 Earth masses, larger than Earth's and roughly 14.8 times Jupiter's mass. Its orbital period is 1180 days, the time it takes to complete one orbit.
