HD 168009 and Its Planet

HD 168009 is a G2V star, a Sun-like main-sequence dwarf, located 76 light-years away. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, at 0.98 solar masses, while its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, at 1.17 solar radii. Its temperature is 5770 K, and its age is 9.68 billion years. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, HD 168009 b, was discovered in 2021 by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. HD 168009 b has a minimum mass of 9.53 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass, and that minimum mass is larger than Earth's. The planet completes one orbit every 15.1 days.

The star's reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's.
