HD 106315 and Its Two Known Planets

HD 106315 is a star 357 light-years from Earth, with two planets known to orbit it. The host is an F5 V star, a main-sequence dwarf hotter than the Sun, with a temperature of 6290 K. Its mass is 1.07 solar masses, its radius is 1.18 solar radii, and its age is 4 billion years. The mass, radius, and temperature estimates are each larger or hotter than the corresponding values for the Sun.

Both planets were discovered in 2017 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star slightly dims the observed brightness. HD 106315 b is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class reaching up to 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 2.44 Earth radii, its mass is 12.6 Earth masses, and its orbital period is 9.55 days, the shortest among the listed planets. Its mean density is 4.78 g/cm³, 0.867 times Earth's.

HD 106315 c is classified as Jupiter-like, a class exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 4.35 Earth radii, its mass is 15.2 Earth masses, and its orbital period is 21.1 days, the longest among the listed planets. Its mean density is 1.02 g/cm³, 0.185 times Earth's. Both planets are larger in radius and greater in mass than Earth.
