HATS-56 and Its Lone Known Planet

HATS-56 is a star 1840 light-years away with one planet known to orbit it. The star is 1.89 billion years old and has a mass of 1.57 solar masses, a radius of 2.2 solar radii, and a temperature of 6540 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet HATS-56 b was discovered by transit in 2019. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. HATS-56 b is Jupiter-like, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius, and its radius is 18.9 Earth radii. Its mass is 191 Earth masses, and its orbital period is 4.32 days. Its reported radius and mass estimates are both larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.156 g/cm³, 0.0282 times Earth's.
