HATS-50 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

HATS-50 is a star 2470 light-years away. It is 1.2 billion years old, with a mass of 1.17 solar masses and a radius of 1.12 solar radii. Its temperature is 5990 K. Both its mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host: HATS-50 b.

HATS-50 b was discovered in 2017 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. HATS-50 b completes an orbit every 3.83 days. It is Jupiter-like, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius, and its radius of 12.7 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. Its mass is 124 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.336 g/cm³, 0.061 times Earth's.
