HATS-23 is a G V star, a Sun-like main-sequence dwarf, located 2080 light-years away. Its reported mass is 1.12 solar masses and its radius is 1.2 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's. The star is 4.2 billion years old and has a temperature of 5780 K. One planet orbits this host.
That planet, HATS-23 b, was discovered in 2017 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it. The planet's radius is 20.8 Earth radii and its mass is 467 Earth masses; both values are larger than Earth's. Its mass is roughly 1.47 times Jupiter's mass. With a radius exceeding four times Earth's, HATS-23 b is classified as Jupiter-like. Its mean density is 0.284 g/cm³, 0.0516 times Earth's. HATS-23 b completes one orbit in 2.16 days.
