HATS-17 b: A Jupiter-like World in a Distant Star System

HATS-17 is a Sun-like star located 1310 light-years away. Its spectral type of G V identifies it as a G-type main-sequence dwarf. The star is estimated to be 2.1 billion years old, with a mass of 1.13 solar masses and a radius of 1.09 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature is 5850 K. One planet orbits this star.

That planet is HATS-17 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by the transit method in 2016. It has a mass of 425 Earth masses, roughly 1.34 times Jupiter's mass, and a radius of 8.71 Earth radii. Both its mass and radius are larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 16.3 days. Its mean density is 3.55 g/cm³, which is 0.644 times Earth's.
