HATS-13 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

HATS-13 is a star 1380 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is 2.5 billion years old, with a mass of 0.962 solar masses and a radius of 0.887 solar radii. Its temperature is 5520 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet HATS-13 b was discovered by transit in 2015. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods. HATS-13 b is classified as Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 13.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 173 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's.

HATS-13 b completes an orbit in 3.04 days. Its mean density is 0.379 g/cm³, 0.0688 times Earth's.
