HAT-P-7 b: A Jupiter-like World Orbiting a Hotter, Larger Star

HAT-P-7 is an F6 V star located 1110 light-years away. Its spectral type places it in the F class, hotter than the Sun's G class, and a trailing V marks it as a main-sequence dwarf. One planet orbits this host: HAT-P-7 b.

HAT-P-7 b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2008. That transit method detects a planet when it passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. The planet's radius is 16.9 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 585 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 1.84 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 0.665 g/cm³, 0.121 times Earth's. HAT-P-7 b completes one orbit in 2.2 days.

The host star's reported mass estimate is 1.51 solar masses, larger than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate is 2 solar radii, also larger than the Sun's. Its reported temperature is 6370 K, hotter than the Sun's, and its age is 2.07 billion years.
