HAT-P-63 b: A Jupiter-Like World in a Distant System

HAT-P-63 is a star located 1320 light-years from Earth, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 9 billion years old, with a mass of 0.925 solar masses and a radius of 0.966 solar radii. Its temperature is 5400 K.

The planet HAT-P-63 b was discovered in 2021 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds 4 times Earth's. Its radius is 12.5 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 195 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.545 g/cm³, which is 0.0989 times Earth's. HAT-P-63 b orbits its star with an orbital period of 3.38 days.
