HAT-P-46 is a star 948 light-years from Earth with a mass of 1.28 solar masses and a radius of 1.4 solar radii. It is 2.5 billion years old and has a temperature of 6120 K, hotter than the Sun, and both its mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit it.
That planet, HAT-P-46 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. HAT-P-46 b orbits every 4.46 days, with a mass of 157 Earth masses and a radius of 14.4 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's corresponding values. Its mean density is 0.29 g/cm³, 0.0526 times Earth's.
