HAT-P-32 and Its Lone Known Planet

HAT-P-32 is a star 943 light-years from Earth with at least one known planet orbiting it. The host star has a mass of 1.13 solar masses, a radius of 1.37 solar radii, and a temperature of 6000 K. Each of these estimates is larger or hotter than the corresponding value for the Sun.

The one known planet is HAT-P-32 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered in 2011 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. That class means its radius exceeds four times Earth's. HAT-P-32 b has a radius of 22.2 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a mass of 216 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.109 g/cm³, 0.0198 times Earth's. The planet completes an orbit in 2.15 days.
