HAT-P-30 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

HAT-P-30 is a star 698 light-years away with a spectral type of F7 and one known planet. The host star is 1 billion years old, has a mass of 1.24 solar masses, a radius of 1.22 solar radii, and a temperature of 6300 K. Its mass and radius are larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is hotter.

The planet HAT-P-30 b was discovered in 2011 by the transit method, in which a planet crosses in front of its star and causes a small dip in brightness. It is a Jupiter-like planet with a mass of 264 Earth masses, a radius of 16.1 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 2.81 days. Both its mass and radius are larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.346 g/cm³, 0.0627 times Earth's.
