Gl 686 and Its Orbiting Planet

Gl 686 is an M-type star, a small, cool red dwarf, located 26.6 light-years away. Its mass is 0.42 solar masses and its radius is 0.42 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its reported temperature is 3660 K, cooler than the Sun's. One known planet orbits this host.

That planet is Gl 686 b, discovered in 2018 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Gl 686 b has a minimum mass of 6.62 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass and larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 15.5 days.
