GJ 480 is an M3.5 Ve star, an M-type dwarf, located 46.4 light-years away. Its mass is 0.45 solar masses, smaller than the Sun's, and its radius is 0.449 solar radii, also smaller than the Sun's. The star's temperature is 3510 K, cooler than the Sun's.
One planet orbits this star. GJ 480 b was discovered in 2020 using the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Its minimum mass is 8.8 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass and larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 9.55 days, the only period reported for this system.
