GJ 338 B b: A Nearby Planet Orbiting a Cool Dwarf

GJ 338 B is a small, cool red dwarf of spectral type M0 V located 20.7 light-years away. Its reported mass estimate is 0.64 solar masses, its radius is 0.58 solar radii, and its temperature is 4010 K, all smaller or cooler than the Sun's corresponding values. The star is estimated to be 4 billion years old. One planet has been found orbiting this host.

That planet, GJ 338 B b, was discovered in 2020 using the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Its minimum mass is 10.6 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass, and its orbital period is 24.4 days. That minimum mass is larger than Earth's.
