FU Tau is an M7.25 star, a small, cool red dwarf with a spectral class that places it among the cooler and redder stars. It is a very young object, with an age of 0.001 billion years, and it has a mass of 0.05 solar masses and a temperature of 2840 K. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.
That planet is FU Tau b, discovered by imaging in 2008. Its mass is 5090 Earth masses, larger than Earth's and roughly 16 times Jupiter's mass. No orbital period is reported for FU Tau b.
