CoRoT-3 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

CoRoT-3 is a star 2510 light-years away with one known planet. It is an F3 V star, a main-sequence dwarf hotter than the Sun, with a temperature of 6740 K. Its mass is 1.37 solar masses and its radius is 1.56 solar radii. It is 2.2 billion years old.

The planet CoRoT-3 b is Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds four times Earth's. It was discovered by transit in 2008, when it passed in front of its star and caused a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius is 11.3 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mass is 6880 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 21.7 times Jupiter's mass.

CoRoT-3 b completes an orbit every 4.26 days. Its mean density is 26.1 g/cm³, 4.75 times Earth's.
