CD Cet and Its Planet

CD Cet is a small, cool red dwarf of spectral type M5.0 V, located 28.1 light-years away. The star has an age of 3 billion years, a mass of 0.161 solar masses, a radius of 0.175 solar radii, and a temperature of 3130 K. Its reported mass and radius are smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler. One planet is known to orbit this host.

CD Cet b was discovered in 2020 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. The planet has a minimum mass of 3.95 Earth masses, larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 2.29 days. A minimum mass is a lower bound on a planet's true mass, not an exact value.
