BD-13 2130: A Distant Star and Its Giant Planet

BD-13 2130 is a star 3020 light-years away with a spectral type of G5 IV/V and one known planet. Its mass is 2.12 solar masses, its radius is 19.2 solar radii, and its temperature is 4550 K. The reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, while its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet BD-13 2130 b was discovered in 2007 by radial velocity, the method that measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Its minimum mass is 3110 Earth masses, roughly 9.78 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's. A minimum mass is a lower bound on a planet's true mass, distinct from an ordinary mass estimate. The planet completes an orbit every 714 days.
