BD-08 2823: A K-Type Dwarf and Its Two Known Worlds

BD-08 2823 is a K3 V star located 135 light-years from Earth, and two planets have been reported orbiting it. The star is a main-sequence dwarf of the cooler K class, with a spectral type indicating a temperature of 4750 K. It is cooler than the Sun, and its reported mass of 0.74 solar masses is smaller than the Sun's. Its age is 4.5 billion years.

Both planets were discovered in 2009 using the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. BD-08 2823 b is the closer of the two, with an orbital period of 5.6 days, the shortest among the listed planets. Its minimum mass of 12.7 Earth masses is the smallest among the listed planets. BD-08 2823 c has a minimum mass of 104 Earth masses, the largest among the listed planets, and an orbital period of 238 days, the longest among the listed planets. Both minimum masses are larger than Earth's.
